Most of these I have blogged about before, but I thought it was important post-accutane to inform those of you on it, or going on it a full list of all the products I think are a necessity when taking accutane. The side effects definitely effect everyone differently so I have listed which side effect each product helps…
DR DAN’S CORTIBALM Side Effect: Dry Lips Price: Varies, I purchase from ebay, aprox £5
Dry lips is a side effect I’m sure pretty much everyone gets. It contains 1% hydrocortisone an anti-inflammatory for almost instant healing of cracked and sore lips, completely reduced the dryness and cracked corners of my lips. I wrote a massive review on this when I discovered it, so take a read -here.
EUCERIN’S AQUAPHOR Side Effect: Dry Lips/Dry Skin! Price: £8.50 Feel Unique.com Buy Here.
This is an amazing product for dryness. It feels a lot like vaseline but is a bit thicker! It’s important not to use the cortibalm constantly as the hydrocortisone can cause damage. Therefore, this is also good when having a break from the cortibalm. The best time for application of this product is before bed. I used to put quite a bit on any dry patches of skin and my lips. This is a popular product with accutane users. You can also read my full review on this -here.
E45’S EMOLLIENT WASH Side Effect: Dry Skin/Eczema/Rashes Price: £4.35 Boots Buy Here.
It is very common to get eczema whilst on accutane. I used every day in the shower in places which I am prone to eczema. I had no outbreaks of eczema until the last month, so this worked really well in preventing it. My whole body felt pretty dry so this was the best thing to use in the shower too.
HEAD AND SHOULDER’S SHAMPOO Side Effect: Dry and Itchy Scalp Price: £2.99 Boots Buy Here. My scalp was very sore and itchy, many people have issues with dandruff too. Head and Shoulder’s is so cheap and really does the job! I used to use this every other day and it worked really well.
COCONUT OIL Side Effect: Everything! Price: £15.49 Holland And Barrett Buy Here. I got a little obsession with coconut oil, and used it on everything. Before bed I would put a thin layer over my face and my skin would be lovely and soft in a morning. It could also be used as a hair mask, and often I rubbed it into my scalp. Try your best to get fragrance free as then it won’t cause any problems on your skin. I think coconut oil deserves its own post some time soon!
I would also suggest on buying some EYE DROPS, any brand does pretty much the same job. Lots of OIL-FREE MOISTURISER and any kind of VASELINE or lip balms are always very useful! I used to have a different type of lip product in all my different bags and jackets for emergencies! The total price of the products listed above comes to approximately £35- a pretty realistic accutane survival guide!
