We all know that cleaning your make-up brushes is unbelievably important, yet we often forget or just skip it because we are too lazy. I’m not going to lie, this is also the case with me! But think about all the dirt and bacteria that remains in those brushes. You can see it for yourselves too, when eventually we get around to cleaning them, the amount of foundation that runs off your beauty blender or brush. It’s actually pretty disgusting. Which is why this weeks ‘skincare tips’ post is a reminder: clean your make-up brushes!
How often? Some sources say every month, some say every two weeks. I vote every two weeks, better to be safe than sorry. Set a day every other week were you can routinely clean your make-up brushes!
How should you clean them? My simple trick is to use a cheap baby bath or baby shampoo to clean them, as baby products often contain little fragrance and few harsh chemicals. Simply run the water and apply some product and wash away the make-up. You will be able to see when the brush is clean as the water will run clear. Once clean lay them on a towel to try overnight.
Are make-up brush cleaners or cleansers worth it? I personally do not think it is worth buying a cleanser, the baby shampoo or a light soap works fine and helps get all the make-up removed. However, I do think that tools to clean the brushes are a great idea. I use a silicone scrubber you can buy them for only a couple of dollars/pounds on Amazon. You just put them on your finger to hold it and then rub the brush over the grooves whilst washing to help remove the make-up and dirt! They’re so cheap, so its definitely worth it!
So remember to take time in your month to clean your brushes at least once, but aim for twice and you should prevent that dirt and old make-up from causing breakouts on your face. A little time and effort goes a long way.
