My biggest skincare rule is DO NOT sleep in your make-up. Although some times I make the odd mistake – and instantly regret it the next morning. Going to sleep with a fresh cleansed face is essential, especially for those of you wanting clear and healthy skin! Here are my tips for removing your make-up thoroughly before a good nights beauty sleep.
1. Micellar water wins over facial wipes
Take a cotton wool pad and apply micellar water (My Favourite: La Roche Posay’s Micellar Water) and wipe in circular motions across your face. Use a separate pad for hard to remove eye make-up. For a deeper cleanse dermatologist Debra Jalliman recommends adding a small amount of your facial cleanser to the micellar water on the cotton pad. Many dermatologists also recommend to avoid facial wipes – yes they’re better than sleeping in your make-up but they always make me break out!
2. Cleanse your face – with a good cleanser and washcloth!
Its important to make sure that your fingers are completely clean before using them to rub cleanser on your face. But even better use a clean washcloth or facial sponge ( My Favourite: Dr Sponge Original Facial Sponge) to apply the cleanser and wash your face with a little warm water. It is important to use the correct cleanser for your skin type. My Favourite: Avene’s Cleanance Gel as it does not contain Sodium Laureth Sulphate – a culprit of causing acne. For dry or sensitive skin Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser is great.
3. Pat Dry
Don’t be too harsh with your skin when drying it with a towel, pat gently.
4. Lock in Moisture
Now is the perfect time to apply your moisturiser while the skin is slightly damp. My Favourite is La Roche Posay’s Effaclar H which is great to reduce redness and excellent to use post-accutane.
