My biggest skincare rule is DO NOT sleep in your make-up. Although some times I make the odd mistake – and instantly regret it the next morning. Going to sleep with a fresh cleansed face is essential, especially for those of you wanting clear and healthy skin! Here are my tips for removing your make-up thoroughly before a good nights beauty sleep.
1. Micellar water wins over facial wipes
Take a cotton wool pad and apply micellar water (My Favourite: La Roche Posay’s Micellar Water) and wipe in circular motions across your face. Use a separate pad for hard to remove eye make-up. For a deeper cleanse dermatologist Debra Jalliman recommends adding a small amount of your facial cleanser to the micellar water on the cotton pad. Many dermatologists also recommend to avoid facial wipes – yes they’re better than sleeping in your make-up but they always make me break out!
2. Cleanse your face – with a good cleanser and washcloth!
Its important to make sure that your fingers are completely clean before using them to rub cleanser on your face. But even better use a clean washcloth or facial sponge ( My Favourite: Dr Sponge Original Facial Sponge) to apply the cleanser and wash your face with a little warm water. It is important to use the correct cleanser for your skin type. My Favourite: Avene’s Cleanance Gel as it does not contain Sodium Laureth Sulphate – a culprit of causing acne. For dry or sensitive skin Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser is great.
3. Pat Dry
Don’t be too harsh with your skin when drying it with a towel, pat gently.
4. Lock in Moisture
Now is the perfect time to apply your moisturiser while the skin is slightly damp. My Favourite is La Roche Posay’s Effaclar H which is great to reduce redness and excellent to use post-accutane.
I am returning to the UK today, and I am super excited to get my hands on some of my favourite beauty products that I could not find here in the USA. Many of you may have read my Friday Favourites: Top Beauty Finds in the States, so I thought a European Version was essential. I opted for ‘European’ as many of my faves that I struggled to find in America were actually my French Pharmacy brands! Here are my European Favourites.
Skin Concerns: Post-Accutane / Redness / Scars
This is my new favourite product, especially since finishing accutane! My face always has an overall redness to it, due to a mix of being on the really harsh accutane and having plenty of scars caused by my acne. This cream reduces that redness pretty much completely and helps my skin to look clearer, softer and calmer! It is suggested that you don’t use this whilst taking accutane, but it is definitely one of the best products to use after. I use this every morning and every night at the minute and would feel lost with out it. Definately now a major part of my daily skincare routine (which I will update you on soon as it has changed recently!). It’s literally a little skin miracle in a bottle. Since using this cream I have barely used moisturiser, this is moisturising enough without being greasy. Its really easy to place under make up too, so it works really well as a base.
