I had the chance to have an online interview with Dr. Debra Jaliman an NYC dermatologist and author of the book Skin Rules. She said ‘acne is my passion’ therefore I got the chance to ask her a wide range of acne related questions! Mineral foundations are a big ‘hype’ today because of all the harsh chemical’s and toxins that are commonly put into make-up and skincare products. And we know that none of those chemicals can be helping our skin. I am a big fan of mineral foundations, particularly bare minerals as they are much safer and cause less harm to your skin. I feel a little less guilty about wearing foundation on my acne-prone skin when I know its less likely to do more bad than good. I recently became aware of an upcoming brand dusty girls, an Australian company with their own mineral foundation, and this made me feel just as good as my trusty bare minerals.
I think wearing too much make-up, and cloggy greasy make-up is a big factor in causing breakouts and acne. Picking foundations and make-up that are non-comedogenic and oil free are very important to me. If make-up is non-comedogenic it means that it will not block your pores, and therefore cannot cause the formation of blackheads…
I recently completed by third month of roaccutane (isotretinoin) so just wanted to post a little update! You can read all about my last update here. For the most of this month my skin felt amazing, barely any spots whatsoever. However this past week it hasn’t been at its best, my dermatologist said its normal to have break outs and it could be due to exam stress. I still have 2 months left to go so hopefully it will sort itself out very soon! In the photo to the left I am wearing a tiny bit of my bare minerals make-up (which you can read about here). Since my last post about roaccutane I have discovered some amazing products which have really helped with the side effects (a lot of dryness!)
It is very common to get eczema whilst on roaccutane, and eczema is something I suffer with anyway so I was a little worried about this when I started the treatment. One product I have found which has been amazing is E45’s Emollient Body Wash which I use every day in the shower in places which I am prone to eczema. I have literally had no outbreaks of eczema, not even a little bit! You can purchase this from boots for £4.29 – here.
I also tried out the E45 dry scalp shampoo, as obviously my hair and scalp are also dry! I don’t really think this has made it any better as I haven’t noticed any difference. However, I guess its probably better than using any old shampoo. Its almost running out so I think I will try out a different brand/product for my hair soon!
Finally, Dr Dans Cortibalm which I have mentioned before has drastically improved my lips! I have been using this every few days, and diluting it down with normal lip products like vaseline (as its a steroid so you must be careful!). You can read my full review of this product here.
Recently I was introduced to bare minerals, I’d never really heard much about it before but now I wouldn’t go anywhere without it! It is amazing for anyone with skin issues as it is not bad for your skin in anyway – so you don’t have to feel guilty about wearing it! I love it because it’s really light weight but also provides amazing coverage. I personally use the fairly light original foundation (link to purchase available below) which gives me flawless coverage I need but also doesn’t cause further breakouts! When I started roaccutane I knew my skin would become severely dry and I didn’t know if this powder foundation would be a problem however it’s not! Even though my skin is dry this foundation still works flawlessly – except on the rare occasion when my skin is having a very bad day.
On my birthday recently I went to go buy some more and decided to buy the complexion pack instead, this included the original foundation and matte foundation (in smaller sizes), a bronzer, primer and a brush – and something else? I can happily say that I am pleased with these other products too. The primer allows smoother make up applications and helps soften blemishes and dry skin. The bronzer also gives a very nice glow, and the brush helps for flawless application.
I am still yet to try the matte foundation as my skin is dry at this current time rather than oily I don’t see it necessary – but anyone who has tried and has any opinions please let me know!
so yeah bare minerals is one of my top skincare brands and there are still so many products of theirs I aim to try and will eventually post, the best thing is I know that they will not cause any problems to my easily aggravated skin! – give it a try!
