If you’re fed up of spending money on the latest beauty products to hit the shelves and dream of a totally-natural beauty product, worry no more. I’ve trawled through my kitchen cupboards and found plenty of items that double up as beauty products – natural, cheap and ready for you to plaster all over your face when the urge for a teen-movie-self-improvement-montage strikes at 3am. Skin Concerns: Dry Skin / Acne / Combination Skin
I always find it a struggle when my skin is having a really dry week, it gets flaky and sore for no reason whatsoever, and this happens particularly in the winter. As I suffer with eczema, which normally occurs on my body, but sometimes patches of dry skin on my face can feel like eczema. Unfortunately, most products that relieve dryness are unbelievably oily, and I wouldn’t risk applying my eczema treatment on my face in fear of breakouts! For day to day moisturising use, most of us, who suffer with oily skin and acne would use oil-free moisturisers. However, when the skin is incredibly dry these are pretty useless, and I don’t think that they help the situation at all. Therefore, it is very hard to get the right balance, you want to relieve the dryness without making it the skin too oily and causing break outs!
I really love trying to make my own face masks, as I feel there are so many different recipies to try. – I also like the the fact that I know exactly what I’m putting on my face and not a load of skin damaging chemicals! So today, I gave a Natural Yoghurt and Honey Face Mask a try…
I have tried lots of different face masks, and lots of different brands of them too. With my skin being sensitive some cheap ones would make my face sting and burn and I would have to wash them off. The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask is the first one I think I have loved and continued to use weekly. When I remember to use it anyway! I often find that face masks cause you to break out at first and then this helps clear your skin in the long run, but this can still be annoying. I think this face mask from the tea tree range in The Body Shop doesn’t do this, I can happily use this before a night out to keep my face feeling clear, fresh and smooth without giving me spots…
Hi! Sorry it’s been a while, exams are over and I will be doing so much more for the site!
I recently made an avocado face mask, as I recently learned about their skincare benefits when applying them to your face (and hair) as well as eating them!
How to make:
I used a full avocado for 2 of us but there was way to much facemask, so half an avocado would definitely be enough! I then mushed them up and it was a little lumpy but you don’t want it to be too runny as it wouldn’t sit on your face! I then added a squeeze of lemon and a few table spoons of honey! This clearly isn’t an expensive facemask and it’s also fun to make your own and could add in any other ingredients for flawless skin – such as oats for some exfoliation.
Why are these good for your skin:
Avocado: Avocado has many nourishing and hydrating effects for your skin. Avocado contains vitamins A and E, both of which have anti oxidant properties and help repair damaged skin. The oils in avocado are similar to the natural oils on your face this makes it great to moisturise and reduce inflammation.
Honey: This was discussed previously in my Oats and Honey Facemask which you can read here. Honey locks in moisture and prevents dryness. It also has anti-microbial properties as it can help in wound healing. Therefore it has known to be helpful in reducing acne scars.
Lemon: Lemons are great as a skin brightener as they contains citric acid and vitamin C so it will lighten any dark spots or acne scars and brighten your skin. Lemons can also help clear up acne as they have anti microbial properties.
Let me know if you give this a try!
